Whittington remember Armistice Day
12th November 2018
Here at Whittington House care home with nursing in Cheltenham the Activities department have been hard at work hosting various events in honour of Armistice Day. We started off with Art Club colouring and painting poppies, which are up on display in the home. A few residents then visited Gloucester Cathedral to pay their respects at the “Poppyfall” exhibit and memorial. The Residents and their relatives then enjoyed getting involved with the Reminiscence session at Whittington House where they were able to look, touch and feel memorabilia from the War such items as: gas masks (adult and child) uniforms, evacuee kits and books. Everyone shared their experiences making it a wonderful social afternoon. For our last activity we welcomed Hayley-Jo Whitney a local talented singer who kindly prepared a special set for us with songs from the War years. Hayley provided the Residents and their visitors with Union Jack flags and song sheets for them to sing- a- long to. It was a lovely afternoon of entertainment bringing back memories some of which the residents shared with the group. At the end of the session several residents stayed in the group chatting and enjoying more social time together.A resident remarked on “what a lovely voice” Hayley had. Another agreed and added “how nice it was to hear lots of different songs from the War years”.Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire is a modern, purpose-built home and provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 66 people. If you would like to find out more about life at Whittington House, or would like to speak to a member of our team, please contact us on 0808 223 5396 or [email protected].
