World Mental Health Day 2022
Held every year on 10th October, World Mental Health Day is a chance for us all to raise awareness so that more support and understanding can be provided to anyone affected by a mental illness.
Research suggests that those in later life are more at risk of experiencing the effects of poor mental health. They may experience a decline in their physical health and require long term care. In addition, there is likely to be an increase in bereavement of loved ones, adapting to a life after retirement, and a feeling of loss or purpose in their life, which can lead to a risk of isolation and loneliness and a decline in their mental health.
At Caring Homes, the wellbeing and happiness of our residents and their families is at the forefront of everything we do, providing person-centred care by getting to know all our residents personally so they can live life to the full.
Our staff are passionate about supporting residents to continue to enjoy whatever brings them a sense of purpose and meaning, achieved through:
- Regular and varied activities – every home provides a variety of activities to entertain and engage each resident in their interests. From baking to art and dancing to exercise, there is always something for everyone.
- Proper home cooked meals – all our homes provide a choice of freshly cooked meals to suit every resident’s likes and needs.
- Social outings – residents and staff take regular trips outside of the home - highlights from this year have been trips to the seaside, garden centres, stately homes, and picnics in the park.
- 1-1 support from carers – all our carers are equipped with the right skills to provide high quality care to all our residents. A big part of this is getting to know the residents individually, understanding their interests and engaging them in activities and conversations that make them happy.
This year, on World Mental Health Day, residents and staff at Hillside Care Home in Suffolk will be raising awareness by wearing white in recognition of mental health, taking part in mindful meditation, zen colouring, talking about Mental Health and what it is, and reminiscing about of what makes them happy.
