Zumba with a twist at Whittington House
28th February 2017
Whittington House residents in Cheltenham, gathered with anticipation this week for their first ever seated Zumba class run by the talented Ally Bennett, Zumba Instructor. We had a great turn out and were delighted when some of our resident’s relatives joined in as well.Ally’s enthusiastic approach, along with our Activities Coordinators Jo and Jenny, encouraged all our residents and guests to participate in the gentle exercises. The residents learnt breathing exercises, which helped them to relax. Ally also had them gently moving their limbs to the music to help improve their dexterity and mobility. Her choice of music ‘Glen Miller’ enabled them to engage with this activity as they knew all the tunes well.Jenny and Jo, our Activities Coordinators commented:“It was lovely to see the residents enjoying being active, trying something they had never done before. It was such a success; we will definitely be inviting Ally to join us on a regular basis.”Moderate exercises are always beneficial for people irrespective of their age and their ability levels and incorporating it with Zumba dancing is a really enjoyable way to get moving. Dancing has great benefits both physically and for our resident’s wellbeing. It is great for maintaining strong bones, muscle strength, increasing coordination and balance, improving posture as well as ones mood and giving a positive outlook. However, the best part is that while you’re dancing, you’re also having fun; socialising and interacting with your friends, meeting new friends too as well as enjoying the music.Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire is a modern, purpose-built home and provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 66 people. If you would like to find out more about life at Whittington House, or would like to speak to a member of our team, please contact us on 0808 223 5396 or [email protected].[gallery size="large" columns="5" ids="17972,17971,17973,17970,17974"]
