Run Fun at Cotman House
Cotman House Residential Home in Felixstowe has a new manager up for a challenge! When Resident, Jane Mary Byrne, found out new manager Rebecca Bewley liked to run, she began setting her challenges. Jane’s own family are runners, and Jane wears their running shirts to the weekly Oomph exercise classes held at Cotman House.
‘We have some amazing new decking overlooking the sea, and I mentioned to Jane that I ran and she suggested I use it for my training, so the residents can cheer me on.’ Said Rebecca. ‘Jane then challenged me to run the Colchester Stampede Half Marathon, a distance I had never done before so she was overjoyed when I completed it, as was I, especially as it was torrential ran and very hilly’.
Cotman House rooms overlook the sea and are in walking distance of the Pier where Rebecca is also a run director for Felixstowe Parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am.
Rebecca says, ‘I’ve always been up for a challenge, and doing those ‘bucket list things’, but also about enabling and encouraging our residents and staff to do the things they didn’t think they were able to anymore, or try things they’ve always wanted to. It’s also great to be back working in Felixstowe as I live 5 minutes from the home so can pop in on my days off if needed.
Rebecca is looking at doing a marathon next year, so watch this space!
