The Pines Knit and Natter
The residents at The Pines Nursing Home in Wandsworth have been getting together with friends and family for a knitting club every Friday.
Many of our ladies have enjoyed knitting in the past and this is a great activity to get the residents, friends and their families together.
Knitting is a great way to keep your brain functioning, remembering old patterns and stitches, and even reminiscing about the things they have created for others. It can promote a real sense of achievement and worth creating something to give to someone else.
Believe it or not, knitting provides many of the same relaxation benefits as yoga and meditation. The controlled and rhythmic movements in knitting also help to control your breathing. You’ll find just knitting for 15 minutes or so relaxes and helps you calm down and unwind. Literally, you’re knitting your stresses away. It is also a great way to exercise your hand eye coordination.
Who knows maybe we’ll step it up a stitch and try to knit a scarf or hat ready for winter!?
